Work Day at World Medical Relief - January 10, 2012   We spent the day at World Medical Relief sorting medical supplies and materials for distribution to needy people around the world.   Hands-On Mission volunteer Gary Earnley of St. Paul's Presbyterian Church worked along side two volunteers from First Presbyterian Church of Royal Oak.    We worked from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm.   The work site was 11745 Rosa Parks Blvd. in Detroit.   Click here to see the picture of volunteers who worked.

Work Day at World Medical Relief - February 14, 2012

Even though the roads were icey from the snow fall the night before, 13 volunteers came to sort medical supplies.   Churches represented by volunteers were St. Paul Presbyterian and Northbrook Presbyterian.   First Church Royal Oak has two retired nurses every Tuesday instructing volunteers on sorting.  Northbrook has a member who  regularly volunteers.  We shared conversation over lunch.    World Medical Relief is located at 11745 Rosa Parks Blvd. in Detroit.    It was a good day.

Festivals of Health Planning Workshop - April 14, 2012

If you are interested in hosting a health fair make your reservation for this workshop.   There will be community resources and experts of various aspects of healthcare will be accessible to you.    Also, this an opportunity to learn from others how to achieve a successful event.    The goal of this workshop is to inform and prepare you for hosting a Festival of Health.   The day will start with lunch at 1:00pm.   Trinity Presbyterian Church is the location for this event at  4849 West Outer Drive in Detroit 48235.  Lunch is served at 1pm and the workshop ends at 4pm.    Click here to RSVP.

For five years Hands-On Mission has partnered with congregations and organizations of Metro Detroit to present around the Presbytery of Detroit health fairs and opportunities for fun festivals.   Each date will be a separate event.  You can volunteer, make hygiene kits and donate.

Work Day with Rebuilding Together Pontiac -  April 28, 2012

Volunteers are needed to make home repairs on a home in Pontiac.  Everyone is invited to participate.  Breakfast and lunch will be provided.   Please plan to arrive by 8am.  The work day will end around 4pm.  Wear work cloths, closed toe shoes and a hat.  Be sure to put on sun block and bring a pair of work gloves.   The work address will be provided later as we near April 28th.

Joplin Mission Trip - May 5 to May 12 , 2012

This is the first trip to Joplin, MO. in response to the wether disaster that distorted the city.   The people of Joplin are repairing and building homes.  For this reason, skilled volunteers are to do construction work.   If you are experienced in the prep, work and finishing join us.          Click here for application

Olive Tree Mission Trip - March 24 to March 31, 2012

This is the last trip to Olive Tree, LA. in the Katrina regions.   The work in Olive Tree is scheduled an coordinated by Presbytery of South Louisiana.  Olive Tree is within minutes of the 9th Ward.  All volunteers are welcome to do construction work and to help as you are able.   Click here to complete a volunteer form.

Mission Fair - February 25, 2012

Hands-On Mission Work Group will conduct its fourth mission fair for all mission interested people.  Special topics will be explored by attendees.   First Presbyterian Church of Birmingham (1669 West Maple Road in Birmingham 48009) will host the mission fair.   Save the date and mark your calendar for February 25th.    Plan to bring others from your congregation and your community.  Click here to RSVP.

W.O.R.D. Literacy Program  -  December 19, 2012

This is a celebration of Christmas with the local second to eighth graders and their families on day in the Calvin East community.   W.O.R.D. (Working On Reading Development) Literacy Program is a ProLiteracy Detroit initiative for school students.   Children will listen to Christmas stories, share healthy snacks and receive gifts.   Calvin East Presbyterian Church is located at 6125 Cadieux in Detroit.   The celebration is between 5:15 pm and 6:30 pm.   Click here to make your inform us of how you will volunteer.

Gleaners Staple Food Drive -  July 1 to July 31, 2012

Hunger does not take a vacation.   That's why during the month of July congregations are needed to collect can and staple food throughout the month of July.  Hunger posters and collection boxes will be distributed at the June 26, 2012 Presbytery Meeting.   The June Presbytery meeting is at Faith Community Presbyterian Church at 44400 West Ten Mile Road in Novi 48375.   Your donated food will be picked up from your church office during the first two weeks of August 2012.   Our 2012 goal is 3,000 pounds, which equates to more than 2,500 meals.     Click here to tell us about your participation.

Calvin Health Fair - April 22, 2012

The Great Tomato Give-A-Way  -  May 19, 2012

Take time to grow something!   Join the increasing number of people growing tomotes.   For the third year, free totmato plants will be made available for you.   On May 19th, HOM will make avaiable to those who reservations tomato plants.   Churches and individuals that accept plants are asked to distribute plants on May 20th, Sunday to children and youth.    Everyone is invited to share the produce.    Click here to tell us about your participation.

Garden Gatherers -  May 1 to October 1, 2012

Hunger does not take a vacation.   That's why during the months between May and October, you are invited to prepare soil, plant seeds, grow plants and harvest produce in your home gardens, neighborhood gardens and congregational gardens.   Your gardens can be rained beds.   Gardeners are asked to identify local soup kitchens, families and nonprofit agencies that would accept their harvest.   Sunday School classes and youth groups might make these gardens summer projects.    Hands-On Mission has partnered with Forgotten Harvest because they have the means to collect fresh vegaetables.    Click here to tell us about your participation.

Phase II of Faith Build with Habitat  -  July 10 to July 14, 2012 

Like the last four years, Habitat for Humanity Detroit has scheduled a Phase II to the Faith Build event.   This means that volunteers are needed to complete the work of building this new home.   We need volunteers to complete the inside work on the house and volunteers for hospitality.   The day starts at 8:00 am with morning prayer and ends at 4:00 pm.   Everyone is invited to lunch for good food and fellowship.   All volunteers must complete the form associate with this narrative.   

Phase I Faith Build with Habitat -  June 11 to June 16, 2012

HSince 2007 Hands-On Mission has partnered with Habitat for Humanity Detroit to build a house for a Detroit family choosen by Habitat and worked along side that family to build their new home.    

The work day starts at 8:00 am and ends at 4:00 pm.    For these six days two types of 

volunteers are needed at the work site - construction and hospitality.   Please sign-up to
